interesting things

So i've been here for two, three weeks and had quite a bit of fun so far. while it isnt extremely different from new york, i've made some observations/ contrasts to the American life:

-there is no universal paper size!! i brought my binders and a bit of looseleaf paper to London with me. but once i run out, im screwed because the paper here is longer and 4-holed (or 2-holed) but either way wont fit well into my 3-hole binder!

- the subway (or tube as they call it here) is really clean and odor-free. reason 1 for this: there are no garbage receptacles in the station so people know to throw out garbage beforehand, and reason 2: its not open 24/7, so when people get drunk and need to pee/ puke they won't be able to do so in the station

- everyone here is polite, strangers smile to you on the street, life is less rushed and more relaxed. this is evident in the cafes here: you get a porcelain mug for coffee if you sit in, (or a teapot for tea) instead of a paper cup and holder.

- their popstars are equally talentless and trashy as our own! but arent rich enough to have Danja or Max Martin produce half the album for them, and thus their music is nowhere near as interesting or catchy

- though britain's attitude towards climate change/ general environmental wellbeing is more alert than our own, i feel like the air quality in london is worse than it is in nyc. this might be because diesel is more commonly used? (it burns dirtier i believe... not sure) but anyway the air is pretty heavy and more noxious.

- on the bright side, i pass through 3 or 4 parks on my walk to school daily!

- security is slightly more lax in london. though im pretty sure CCTV more than makes up for this!

- NO FROZEN YOGURT. ie pinkberry, red mango, very berry, yogurtland, nubi's. NONE WHAT SO EVER!!!! =( and the bubble tea scene is pretty weak too

- museums are free!

staring down an aztec mythical creature..

life imitates art ^__^

and a treat: coconut ice cream at wagamama's, a noodle shop modeled after those in Japan
